Our Story

Kate is the founder and artist behind Mind Over Matter M.O.M. She is a stay-at-home mom and part-time photographer passionate about creating sentimental keepsakes, whether they are printed or worn. Kate’s journey began with photography, capturing the beauty of newborns and creating surreal, whimsical story portraits. She firmly believes in keeping cherished memories close, not boxed away in the attic.

Kate's love for unique, one-of-a-kind items led her to jewelry making. Her adventure started when she became a mother and sought ways to preserve each fleeting stage of her children's lives. Breastfeeding, a significant milestone for her, inspired her to create lasting, tangible keepsakes. Over the past decade, Kate has meticulously researched and tested various methods of preserving breast milk in jewelry, ensuring her pieces are eco-friendly and free of unnecessary chemicals, fillers, or tints.

In addition to her breast milk jewelry, Kate’s second line is inspired by nature. In the summer of 2013, she and her husband, Christopher, began beekeeping, a hobby that quickly became a family passion. Originally known as Milk and Honey, combining her love for breastfeeding and beekeeping, Kate rebranded to Mind Over Matter for a more unique identity. Her nature-inspired pieces incorporate bees, combs, flowers, and other natural elements, all personally picked, dried, and inspected by Kate.

Kate has also expanded into sculptures and other arts, working with bones and other oddities that captivate viewers. Her canvases and prints often feature scenes from her Midwestern hometown and her favorite places, such as her backyard, filled with bees, flowers, and other natural wonders. Occasionally, she releases series shoots for her audience to enjoy.
